Volmer-Weber growth mode (rus. механизм роста Вольмера – Вебера otherwise механизм островкового роста) — one of the three main thin film growth modes, describes island film growth.

Description

The Volmer-Weber growth mode corresponds to the situation when the atoms of a film are more strongly coupled with each other than with the substrate. In this case, three-dimensional islands nucleate and grow directly on the surface of the substrate.
