bioengineering (rus. биоинженерия otherwise биомедицинская инженерия) — field of science and technology focusing on biological or medical applications of engineering principles.

Description

Bioengineering tasks range from creation of artificial organs to compensate reduced or lost physiological functions (biomedical engineering), to the development of genetically modified organisms, such as agricultural plants and animals (genetic engineering), and molecular engineering of compounds with desired properties (protein engineering, engineering enzymology). In non-medical aspects bioengineering is closely related to biotechnology.
