Frank–van der Merve growth mode (rus. механизм роста Франка – Ван дер Мерве otherwise механизм послойного роста) — one of the three main thin film growth modes, describes layer-by-layer film growth.

Description

The Frank–van der Merve growth mode (layer-by-layer growth) corresponds to the situation when the atoms of a film are more strongly coupled with the substrate than with each other. As a result, the growth of the next layer does not begin until the completion of the previous one, i.e. the growth is strictly two-dimensional.
