self-propagating high temperature synthesis abbr., SHS (rus. синтез, самораспространяющийся высокотемпературный abbr., СВС) — a process of moving chemical reaction wave in a reagent mixture with the formation of solid end-products conducted to synthesise substances and materials. SHS is a mode of highly exothermic reaction (combustion reaction) in which heat is localisised within a layer and transmitted from one layer to another by heat transfer.
