limit of detection abbr., LOD otherwise detection limit (rus. предел обнаружения) — minimum concentration or the lowest amount of substance that can be detected by a certain method within a stated confidence limit.

Description

The detection limit describes the method in terms of qualitative analysis. In practice, this most often means the possibility to distinguish, with a stated statistically significant probability, the result of a sample analysis from the result of a blank experiment. Reducing the limit of detection is a main challenge in the development of analysis methods.
