nanotribology
(rus. нанотрибология otherwise молекулярная трибология)
—
a branch of tribology focusing on theoretical and experimental study of adhesion , friction, wear and destruction on the atomic and molecular scale of interaction of surfaces .
Description
Nanotribology studies the processes of cohesion and sliding of contacting surfaces, the effect of a lubricating film a few nanometers thick, the electrical and mechanical properties of contacts on the atomic and molecular level, etc. These processes are characterised by a very small pressure of contact, and their study, being important for designing nano- and micromechanical systems , became possible due to recent significant developments in experimental techniques and theoretical models.
