semiconductor (rus. полупроводник) — is a material with electrical conductivity (as opposed to ionic conductivity) intermediate in magnitude between that of a conductor and an insulator.

A semiconductor differs from a conductor by the strong dependence of conductivity on the impurity concentration, temperature, and various types of radiation. Semiconductors are materials with an energy band gap of, usually, several electron volts.
